Harnessing Social Media for Good

SoCal Influential, a group of local bloggers, businesses, content producers, and influencers on Instagram, are counting their blessings and giving back for Thanksgiving. They are hosting a community drive collaboration to sponsor 75 baskets of non-perishable goods, a family game, and canvas/cookie kits for the kids. They plan to deliver the baskets during Thanksgiving week.   “Our goal is to promote more service opportunities by reaching out to our networks and using our influence, especially during the pandemic,” said Vanessa Barrios-DeGiacomo, a member of SoCal Influential and who motivates communities to support different nonprofits. Their previous collaboration of 30 individuals and families collected school supply essentials in bins, paper, binders, Sweet Petite cookies, and grocery gift cards for 70 children and families.   Vanessa began the community drive collaborations with other members of SoCal Influential to redirect her personal anxiety from the pandemic. Hoping to create a distraction, Vanessa said, “What better way than to support children and families in our communities that need the help.”   Thanks to Vanessa, Agoura Hills resident, and other members: Northridge resident Abigail Solis, Chino resident Angelica Gaxiola, Garden Grove resident Claire Flores, Redondo Beach resident Jennifer Dowd, Woodland Hills resident Maricela Chamagua, Agoura Hills resident Reema Bhayani, and La Habra resident Jackie Ortiz for harnessing your social media influence for good and encouraging others to do the same.
