When a mother and father came to El Centro de Amistad’s Family Preservation program, they were navigating a difficult season. Raising two young children while managing mental health challenges, recovery from substance use, and financial pressures had left them with much to carry. They needed support—and a place where they could speak openly without feeling judged.
Over nine months, the family worked with a compassionate team to strengthen their relationships and build greater stability at home. The mother connected with Tarzana Treatment Centers and completed a substance use treatment program. Through individual counseling, both parents learned ways to manage stress, care for their own well-being, and support one another.
Parenting classes helped them better understand their children’s developmental needs and bring more play and learning into everyday routines. These shared moments became opportunities to connect with their daughters and strengthen their family bond.
Practical support also made a difference. With both parents working full time, the team helped them access reliable childcare, organize appointments, and advocate for services that fit their schedules. Assistance with the furniture needed and connections to food and financial resources helped ease additional pressures.
As the weeks passed, the team observed a more united family. The parents reported feeling safe enough to be honest about their struggles and ask for the help they needed. Together, they met their program goals and developed skills to face future challenges with greater confidence.
Their progress reflects the dedication of two parents, and the difference compassionate support can make. At ECDA, Family Preservation helps families build on their strengths, deepen their connections, and create a more stable foundation for their children.
