Dear ECDA Friends,
Los Angeles County has extended the “Safe at Home” order until May 15, 2020.
El Centro de Amistad will continue to support our clients virtually to ensure the safety of all involved until the order is lifted. Our Agency understands the importance of continuing to deliver quality services, even with social distancing restrictions. El Centro de Amistad staff are committed to providing the care and resources needed to help our families maintain wellness during these uncertain times.
One program that stands out is our Relative Home Assessment Services (RHAS). RHAS is a program that aims to approve relative caregivers as resource families to offer home-based family care and improve the outcomes for children in foster care. Our RHAS staff has been in partnership with prospective relative caregivers to assess their homes by conducting virtual tours. More than half of children in out-of-home placements reside with relative caregivers or non-relative extended family members. Caregivers can include next of kin, a close friend, or a family member.
Through virtual tours, our staff evaluates cabinets, hinges, screen doors, dining areas, mattresses, electrical plugs, etc. If our staff notices a particular need, we order the item and have it delivered safely to their home. Our goal is to eliminate barriers and provide a safe home for a child in foster care.
The needs during this time, as you can expect, are many for our families who are experiencing unemployment, food insecurity, and added financial stressors. Help us in providing needed items so children can be safe and in familial settings. Consider making a donation today. Thank you, in advance, for your ongoing support. On behalf of ECDA, be healthy, be well, and be safe.
Sincerely,
Tamika Farr, MBA
Executive Director
